BACTON PARISH COUNCIL

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN

that a casual vacancy has arisen in the Office of Councillor for Bacton Parish Council.

If by 22nd November 2024 a request for an election to fill said vacancy is made in writing to the Returning Officer at the address below by TEN electors for the said Parish, an election will be held to fill the said vacancy, otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option.

If an election is called, it will take place not later than 30th January 2025. Dated: 4th November 2024

Description of the role of Parish Councillor

Responsible to all people resident within the Parish Regular liaison with Other councillors, local authorities, residents.

Main purpose: Representing the views of all residents within your parish

Secondary purpose: As part of a local council you will have responsibility for running local services i.e. streetlighting, village greens and potentially much more; deciding on how much to raise through the Council Tax in order to deliver your council’s services; as part of the planning process, comment on planning applications in the parish; improve the quality of life and the environment in their local area; working to bring about improvements through local projects, lobbying other service providers and working in partnership with other parishes and agencies.   

Eligibility to Become a Parish Councillor you must:

• be a UK or Commonwealth citizen

• or be a citizen of another Member state of the European Union • and be at least 18 years old

and to be eligible to stand for an election for a particular parish, you must meet one of the 4 criteria:

1. You are, and will continue to be, registered as a local government elector for the parish/community in which you wish to stand from the day of your nomination onwards.

2. You have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish/community area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election/co-option.

3. Your main or only place of work during the 12 months prior to the day of your nomination and the day of election has been in the parish/community area.

4. You have lived in the parish/community area or within three miles of it during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election.
